Non-Specific Urethritis (NSU)
What is it?
NSU is a condition which only affects men and is where the urethra becomes inflamed, usually due to infection. NSU can have a number of possible causes, but it is estimated that the STI chlamydia is responsible for 40 per cent of all cases off NSU.
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms include:
- White or clouding discharge from the tip of the penis
- Feeling the need to pass urine frequently
- Itching or irritation at the end of the urethra

Can it be treated?
Yes, NSU infections can be treated with antibiotics. If left untreated infections may cause a painful infection in the testicles and problems with fertility. Early treatment is very important.
Can I prevent it?
Condoms are the only form of contraception to protect you against STIs. You can get free condoms in Medway through the C Card scheme
